Sending photographs from your phone

Put it on your home screen

Open www.traveller.org/api/m in Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen, and it becomes an app with its own icon:

From then on it opens full-screen with one tap.

Unlock once

The first screen asks for the upload passphrase (the owner gives it to you). Leave Remember on this phone switched on and you will not be asked again on that phone — later opens show a gold UNLOCKED band across the top and go straight to the home screen.

While the phone checks the passphrase, the band at the top is dark and reads UNLOCKING… with a light sweeping along it. That is the phone talking to the server; on a slow connection it can take a few seconds. If it stops and shows the passphrase screen again, the passphrase was refused — check it and try again.

Choose where the photographs go

Tap the Album card. You can search the existing albums by name, pick one from the list, or start a new one — give it the country, a name for the place, and the year. A new album is created the moment you upload into it.

Pick the photographs

Tap the Photos card and choose from your library. The card then says how many are selected and roughly how big they are.

• Picked the wrong ones? Tap Clear on the Photos card. It empties the selection without opening the library again. (Cancelling inside the library does not clear it — iPhones keep the old selection — which is why Clear is there.)
• Change reopens the library to pick again.
• Shrink big photos (in the settings card) sends smaller copies and is on by default; switch it off only if the owner has asked for full-size originals.

Upload

Press Upload N Photos. The phone sends them one after another and shows its progress; keep the screen on until it says Done. If the connection drops part-way, press Upload again — photographs already sent are recognised and not sent twice.

Done does not mean on the site yet. The photographs are in storage; the site’s import runs a minute or two later on the test site, and they reach the public site the next time the owner publishes. If you do not see them on www.traveller.org straight away, that is expected.

Films and banknotes

The home screen has two more doors. Film sends one clip at a time, with its country, place, year and a caption. Currency sends photographs of banknotes — the site identifies the note itself, so you need only choose the photographs.
