The artwork
Front: Hồ Chí Minh at right, bearded and in a plain high-collared jacket, engraved against a fan of guilloche rosettes. Above left, the country's name as "Cộng Hòa Xã Hội Chủ Nghĩa Việt Nam" over the state emblem — gold star, rice ears and cogwheel. The value is spelled out "Một Trăm Nghìn Đồng" and repeated in large green numerals. Red vertical serial at the left edge, black horizontal serial at lower right, with a clear polymer window at right.
Back: The Khuê Văn Các, the Constellation of Literature pavilion at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi — a timber upper storey with circular windows set on a square brick base, framed by old trees and the balustraded causeway and walls of the courtyard. "Ngân Hàng Nhà Nước Việt Nam" runs across the top; the value appears again in words at lower left and as 100.000 at right, the numerals filled with microprinted lettering.
In circulation
Part of the polymer series the State Bank of Vietnam brought in from 2003–04, replacing the earlier cotton-paper 100,000 đồng. It remains legal tender and in everyday use, the workhorse note for restaurant bills and taxi fares, sitting below the 200,000 and 500,000 denominations of the same family.
