The artwork
Front: Kapitan Pattimura — Thomas Matulessy, the Maluku captain who led the 1817 rising against the Dutch on Saparua — engraved in violet line work, a parang shouldered in his right hand. A large '1000' fills the left field over orange and rose guilloche; below, BANK INDONESIA and SERIBU RUPIAH. The pale right-hand panel carries the Garuda Pancasila arms, a vertical 1000, and the 2009 board signatures.
Back: Labelled PULAU MAITARA DAN TIDORE: the view across the strait, with Maitara's low green cone in front of Tidore's cloud-capped volcano, and two fishermen poling a slender dugout through blue water. The scene sits in a framed panel; serial numbers in red above and black below, with BANK INDONESIA, 1000 and SERIBU RUPIAH in violet along the foot.
In circulation
The 2000 emission thousand, printed with successive dates through the decade — this one 2009. It served as the workhorse small note until the 2016 emission brought in Tjut Meutia at the same value, and Bank Indonesia revoked it as legal tender at the end of December 2021, leaving only an exchange window.
